Integral Skin (iSkin): Carpenter Co. Announces New Technology Using Solstice® Liquid Blowing Agent

April 03, 2016

Richmond, VA - Carpenter Co., one of the world’s leading producers of flexible polyurethane is pleased to announce a new line of Integral Skin (iSkin) Polyurethane Foam Systems. These foam systems have been developed to meet the coming regulations in the United States regarding the discontinuation of HFCs in polyurethane foams. These regulations come into effect beginning in 2017 and will pave the way for the next generation of HFO blowing agents. This iSkin line makes innovative use of Carpenter Carpol® Polyols and Honeywell Solstice® Liquid Blowing Agent (LBA), which is based on HFO technology. It delivers outstanding surface quality in a variety of shore A hardness levels.

“This line of products has good physical properties and we are also able to achieve a robust shelf life with Solstice® LBA,” says Ryan Rindone, Marketing Manager for Chemical Systems at Carpenter Co. “We believe these products address the needs of the market to provide high quality integral skin parts while complying with the upcoming regulations regarding HFCs.”

Carpenter has developed a line of polyurethane foam systems that can be used in a variety of settings producing a wide variety of configurations.

“Customers who have evaluated these systems in their production facilities have found them to perform similarly to existing HFC foams while providing excellent skin formation,” commented Jamie Spears, Flexible Foam Chemist at Carpenter. “These systems are able to produce a wide range of hardness levels through a variety of index ranges. The pack factors and densities were comparable to their current HFC-based foam products.”
